Calling on The Hermit

Riddle me this Batman....

I have been hearing about younger (than me) people suffering from health problems (heart, diabetes, blood pressure etc) and I think to myself:

"Self, why do you continue to (mal)nourish your body with sugar and chemicals? "

And I can't really come up with a good explanation. I am overweight (technically obese) and I "know better". I was thinking the other day that I am healthy. My BP is good, no glucose, cholesterol is good, no heart issues. My internal organs are doing well.

My back, hips and joints are another story.

So I go back to thinking to myself:

"Self, are you seriously daring your body to retaliate? Is that what this is about? Prove to me that I can put a ton of crap in your gas tank and you still run well?"

Don't get me wrong. This is about health. Not looks or vanity in any way.

What will it take to get me to change my habits and do the "hard" stuff?

Choose your hard.

I know.

It is so "funny". We all have that one thing that we want/need to change but are simply unwilling to do the work. Even me.

Tarot's Hermit needs to come into play and introspection needs to be done if anything is to shift. This is the part we need.

This is the part we don't like.

This is the painful awareness of our darkness.

We need the Hermit's lantern to help us shine the light in those cobwebby crevices. The places we refuse to go but so desperately need to.

"Filling the conscious mind with ideal conceptions is a characteristic of Western theosophy, but not the confrontation with the shadow and the world of darkness. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious."

-Carl Yung
